SANDAKAN: There is no reason to panic over the antibiotic-resistant superbug, Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said.
“The superbug that we found will not cause any infection. It only colonises the body of the patient,” he said.
He had told reporters on Tuesday that a superbug had been detected in a 24-year-old woman, the first known case in Malaysia.
The patient has since recovered after being treated at the Ampang Hospital in Selangor.

Zul Noordin claims ‘secret’ PKR, DAP pact to ensure Chinese rule

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 — Zulkifi Noordin alleged today that there was a “secret contract” between PKR and DAP that will ensure Chinese dominance should Pakatan Rakyat (PR) take over Putrajaya.
The Kulim Bandar-Baharu MP, an ex-PKR MP turned independent critic of the opposition, claimed that even PAS was not aware of the contract in an inflammatory speech in Parliament today.
“The contract promises that Chinese leaders in DAP will be given autonomy in Penang,” said Zulkifli told Parliament during the debate on Budget 2011.
The independent MP who was once closely associated with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim lashed out at DAP, calling it a “chauvinist-infected party” and accused the party of being responsible for the May 13 riots in 1969.

Despite job opportunities, the poor being picky: Dr Subramaniam

KUALA LUMPUR: Many of the poor in the country have become choosy and refuse to accept certain job opportunities offered to them.
Human Resource Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam said their attitude was preventing them from being gainfully employed, despite the availability of jobs in the country.
"Many do not appreciate the opportunity to work for a living," he said, adding that the ministry was looking for ways to change the mindset of this group.
He said recent figures showed that out of 242 jobs offered to the poor and hardcore poor identified under the e-Kasih database, only 32 people accepted the job offers.
"We can spend millions trying to help them but never achieve our goal unless they are willing to change their attitude," he said.
When asked, he suggested two reasons why they were not accepting the job offers or constantly job hopping.
"Either the wages are too low or they have no self-discipline," he said after receiving a mock cheque of RM7mil from Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil for the implementation of the Azam Kerja project.
The sum had been allocated for the project under the National Key Result Areas (NKRAs), to lift poor and hardcore poor families identified under the e-Kasih system out of poverty by offering them job opportunities with wages ranging from RM450 to RM1,200 per month.
A total of 10,448 poor and hardcore poor people have been identified under the e-Kasih system.

TAMPIN: The express bus involved in Sunday's accident which killed 12 people was in good condition, preliminary investigations have revealed.
The three-year-old bus had also undergone Puspakom checks in May and was due for the next round of inspection at the end of November.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said the 52-year-old driver as well as the bus had also not been issued with any summonses previously.
"My officers have conducted preliminary checks on the bus and it seems to be in fairly good condition. The bus is quite new, even the tyres were good," he told reporters after visiting the accident scene Monday.

KUALA LUMPUR: There is no evidence so far that the express bus involved in the fatal crash in Simpang Ampat on Sunday was speeding.
"There were media reports of a passenger claiming the bus was speeding, but when we questioned the particular person, she claimed to be sleeping prior to the bus crash," said Federal traffic chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Abdul Aziz Yusof, and urged all parties to stop speculating.
He also said 52-year-old bus driver, who perished in the accident, had a clean traffic record.
"Initial investigations revealed that he did not have any summonses, neither did the bus he was driving have any record of traffic offences," he added.

True friendship

You cannot judge the quality of another's friendship by superficial apperrances, especially when things are going smoothly. You must never think that any of the eighty thousands sacred teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha's lifetime or any of the Buddhas and bodhisattas of the ten directions and three existence are outside yourself. Your practice of the Buddhist teachings will not releive you of the sufferrings of birth and death in the least unless you preceive the true nature of your life. If you seek enlightenment outside yourself, then your performing even ten thousand practices and ten thousand good deeds will be in vain. It is like the case of a poor man who spends night and day counting his neighbour's wealth but gain not even half a coin.
