KUALA BESUT Voters here should support BN because it is the easiest way out of a potential instability in the Terengganu state assembly, said the coalition’s deputy chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin.
“If not, there will be other effects that I do dare not speak of on the state constitution, position of the monarch, political stability, the possibility of fresh elections and people coming out (to vote) again.
“These are the processes already in place in the rules and the constitution. However the easiest answer is choose BN and at least the situation would return to status quo, stable, and can help the state government continue its development agenda,” he said.
Muhyiddin was speaking to reporters as the BN Kuala Besut by-election director at the end of the nomination period.
He was asked to respond to PAS’ campaign slogan ‘16:16 New Terengganu’, which refers to the possibility of a hung assembly where BN and Pakatan Rakyat each control half to the 32-member assembly should PAS win the by-election.
Muhyiddin added that BN has already addressed most of the local community’s grievances in the run-up to the 13th general election two months ago, and hoped they would once again lend their support for BN - this time in greater numbers.
Nevertheless, he said the coalition is prepared to accept any result from the election.
During the press conference , Muhyiddin was also asked to respond to allegations that BN practices cronyism , and the fact that PAS candidate Azlan Yusof is a Class A contractor who gets government projects.
Muhyiddin replied that he is unfamiliar with local issues and that the Ramadan month is not suited for speaking ill of anyone, then quickly turned his attention towards promoting the BN candidate, Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abdul Rahman (right).
“(He is) a young man of calibre with qualifications and without problems. He does not know things like cronism and nepotism yet, so he is brand new and fresh. You can see it in his face.
“(He is) the son of an ustaz, professional, and young,” he said.
