Is it approved in time for GE14?

Harapan's application still under consideration by ROS

Pakatan Harapan's application to register as an official coalition is still being considered by the Registrar of Societies (ROS), the Home Ministry said.
It was responding to Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin who had asked the home minister
to state why Harapan's registration and party logo have yet to be approved as well as the additional requirements and criteria required by the ROS to have them approved.
The home ministry in a parliamentary written reply said that the ROS is responsible for reviewing in detail every registration made by political parties.
This is to ensure that public safety, as well as public interest, are safeguarded.
"The ROS does not impose additional criteria or requirements on the application and the application is still being considered by the ROS."

Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad (photo), last week, had lamented that the ROS has continued to ignore the coalition's application to register its four parties as an official coalition.
After nearly four months since Harapan's application was submitted, Mahathir claimed it was "extraordinary" that the ROS had refused to respond to Harapan's application.
This, despite the coalition having already complied with the ROS' suggestion to amend its logo to include the word "Pakatan".
Harapan is attempting to register as a formal coalition in order to contest under a single logo.
Former law minister Zaid Ibrahim had predicted that Harapan will find it difficult to get itself registered as a political coalition.

Salleh: Copy claim proves Opposition agrees with Budget 2018

KOTA BELUD: The Opposition's claim that Budget 2018 presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Friday (Oct 27) was copied from Pakatan Harapan's "alternative budget" proves that the opposition agrees with it, said Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.

The Communications and Multimedia Minister said instead of finding fault with Budget 2018, the Opposition had complained that the Government had stolen ideas from them.

On the Opposition's claim that Budget 2018 was a "sweetener" or "election budget",  Salleh said, "every year they say the same thing, that the Budget is an election budget."

"Does this mean Pakatan Harapan is saying that Budget 2018 is very good and can entice the voters? Statements such as these from the Opposition gives the impression they are very unhappy with Budget 2018 because it is good and not because it is bad. Is that not ironical?"

Salleh said the Opposition had been grumbling all year long about "all sorts of things, good or bad so they cannot say that the Government did not listen to them as proven in Budget 2018".

"Therefore the Opposition could thank the Prime Minister for the very positive budget instead of continuing to grumble that the budget was a sweetener, an election budget, copied from Pakatan Harapan, and so on," he said after flagging off the Kota Belud Jamboree held in conjunction with the Tamu Besar here on Saturday (Oct 28). - Bernama

Congratulation to all the 5 Universities. Hope that they will make it to the 500 QS World University Rankings next year

Five Malaysian varsities continue to rise in rankings

PETALING JAYA: All five of Malaysia’s research universities continue to climb the rankings ladder with Universiti Malaya (UM) leading the pack.
UM, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) are in the top 50 among the 11,900 universities in Asia, according to the 2018 edition of the QS University Rankings: Asia.
UM is ranked 24th among Asian universities, rising three spots from 27 last year, while UPM is ranked 36th, UKM ranked 43rd, USM is 46th and UTM is at 49th. All of them have improved their rankings compared with last year (see table).
The regional university rankings, released yesterday by global higher education analyst QS Quacquarelli Symonds, see 27 Malaysian higher education institutions being listed in the top 400 within the region.
QS research director Ben Sowter said this year, Malaysian institutions recorded their best-ever performance, becoming more competitive with their regional counterparts.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh congratulated all the Malaysian universities that made it into this year’s edition of the rankings.
“The ministry is always supportive of your endeavours to make Malaysian higher education great and believes in the synergy that exists among higher education institutions, which helps foster a dynamic and innovative ecosystem,” he said in a statement.
UM deputy vice-chancellor (academic and international) Prof Dr Awang Bulgiba Awang Mahmud said the rise in rankings was due to the cumulative efforts of its staff and students.
“Although rankings are not the only thing that is important to UM, the management believes that these provide a gauge of its progress over the years.
“To improve its ranking, UM is now embarking on a mid-term review of its plans and adjusting and responding to the financial challenges that have arisen over the last two years.
“The financial constraints are posing new challenges to UM but it is rising to the occasion and will try its best to continue improving,” he said.
UPM vice-chancellor Prof Datin Paduka Dr Aini Ideris said it was committed to strengthening its academic and research processes and continuing on its journey to become a world-class university.
Two private universities are also among the top 200 in the region –Taylor’s University (150) and Multimedia University (179). Both climbed up from the 179th and 193rd positions.
Taylor’s University vice-chancellor and president Professor Michael Driscoll said the jump in its ranking showed that the university was on the right path and underlined the quality of education it provided.
The table is led for the first time by Singapore’s Nanyang Technolo-gical University. It takes the number one position from the National University of Singapore, which now ranks second.
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is at third position, up one rung from last year.

$5000 a day and about $1.8 million a year and $5.4 million for 3 years not including rental, electricity and etc. This guy must be very generous.

NAJIB’S RED SHIRTS CHIEF OFFERS FREE FOOD TO 1,000 DAILY FOR THREE YEARS

Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Md Yunos has announced plans to offer free food to 1,000 Malaysians every single day for the next three years.
To be served at his Gabungan NGO 1Malaysia restaurant, which he launched today, he said the idea came to him after he realised that material wealth could not be brought with him to the afterlife.
“This realisation came from my friend who died two months ago. After I buried him, that’s when the realisation came,” Jamal (photo) told reporters today.
He hoped news of this programme would receive wide publicity so that underprivileged Malaysians will benefit.
His restaurant, located along Jalan Pahang in Kuala Lumpur and run by 15 volunteers, operates every weekday from 11am to 3pm.
On offer is a rotating menu that includes ayam masak merah, fish curry, steamed corn, fried fish, fish and vegetable sambal, white rice as well as nasi minyak.
Patrons are not restricted in their food amount but are required to wash their own plates after eating.
Jamal added that he had received financial support from “numerous corporate bodies” for the programme but did not name them.
“Therefore for the next three years, we will have enough funds (to sustain the programme). I believe that the funds will come in continuously and I believe many more corporate people will come forward (to donate).
“If we get a good response from the people, I will do this in Sekinchan as well,” he added.
He estimates the programme will cost RM5,000 a day, with each person’s meal costing RM5.
Following ‘muhibbah’ concept
Meanwhile, Jamal denied harbouring political motives behind his latest philanthropic programme.
“This is for the next three years, it’s not about the (upcoming) general election. Don’t make a restaurant a political issue.
“I welcome my political friends regardless of whether they are from DAP, PKR or PAS. As long as they are Malaysian.
“However, we do not welcome people from Bangladesh and Myanmar (and other non-citizens).
“We are following the ‘muhibbah‘ (friendly) concept. If you want to call us racist, (you can’t) because this is our concept and we are doing this for the rakyat,” he said.
Jamal previously announced his intention to run for Umno Youth chief, a post presently occupied by Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar.

If All Undergrads are bosses, then who are the workers??? Bangala, Nepalnese, Indonesian etc......

Be a boss not a worker, Najib tells undergrads

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak wants undergraduates to change their ‘wage earner’ mentality to become entrepreneurs who can offer employment to other individuals.
The prime minister said undergraduates must challenge themselves to choose the field of entrepreneurship that could promise a more meaningful future.
Citing Chinese global icon Jack Ma (photo) as an example, Najib said the former began on a modest scale in a small apartment, but today, he is among the richest individuals in the world.

“So, I want our mentality to change, I don’t want the mentality that upon leaving the university, becoming a wage earner is in our head. We must challenge ourselves.
“I believe the field of entrepreneurship can become a catalyst in enriching ourselves and the nation,” he said during the ‘Bicara Santai’ session at the “Varsity Entrepreneurship Skills and Talents” (VEST) 2017 at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), in Kuala Lumpur tonight.
Actor Fizo Omar was the moderator of the session which was also attended by Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) Minister Hamzah Zainuddin.
VEST 2017 was a joint initiative by the KPDNKK together with Perbadanan Nasional Berhad (PNS). It is one of the programmes by the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) and a driver for the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) policy.
Najib, who is also the finance minister, said the government constantly provided various initiatives and training to develop the TN50 generation to be skillful at all times.
“We must become on-line or e-commerce entrepreneurs so that the product could be marketed globally instead of being restricted conventionally.
Meanwhile, Najib hoped undergraduates involved in VEST would become great entrepreneurs in the future.
He said they must have the determination to succeed by having the mentality to become champions including at the international level by capitalising the Malaysian Global Innovations and Creativity Centre in Cyberjaya.
Thus, Najib said the government was willing to consider aid that could be given to the university that emerged as the champion.
In the entrepreneurship contest, three of the 10 teams that advanced to the final round of the VEST entrepreneurship programme 2017 presented their business ideas in front of the prime minister tonight.
Universiti Teknologi Petronas which came up with the idea ‘Solvieno’ that provides 450,000 job opportunities on-line won the first prize of RM25,000.
Meanwhile, Universiti Putra Malaysia and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia won the second and third prize respectively and received RM15,000 and RM10,000.
UPM presented the idea “Serdang Cendol” and UKM presented the idea “Fast Print".

Zaid: Kit Siang would make a better PM than anyone in Umno. Maybe but will he even have a chance to be one... Hahahaha...

Since Umno leaders continue to harp on the prospect of DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang becoming prime minister should Pakatan Harapan win the polls, Zaid Ibrahim believes this might not be a bad idea.
“We are hearing this continuously. If they (Umno leaders) are pushing for it so hard, it might be a good idea,” he told Malaysiakini.
Responding to a question, the former law minister said he has no doubt that Lim would make a better prime minister than anyone in Umno.
He was elaborating on his earlier tweet in response to a Malaysiakini article ,which quoted Umno ministers Salleh Said Keruak and Abdul Rahman Dahlan insisting that Lim would become prime minister if the opposition coalition triumphed in the next election.
“Great idea. Kit Siang will be better than those who abused their trust to the people,” Zaid had tweeted.
image: https://i.malaysiakini.com/1138/4c845d1c7fc48580deaa06d193ad7dce.jpeg

Meanwhile, Zaid, who is now a DAP member, told Malaysiakini that Umno ministers are training their guns on Lim (photo) because they are bereft of ideas.
The former Umno lawmaker is also convinced that the scare-mongering would not have the desired effect.
Umno 'don't know what to do'
“They don't know what to do. Who do you attack...You attack Mahathir (Mohamad) and you attack Kit Siang.
“They (Umno leaders) want to hide their issues. So this is a major source of distraction,” he added.
DAP has accused Umno of attempting to instil fear in the Malay electorate by portraying the predominantly Chinese opposition party as a threat to the position of the Malays and Islam.
With Mahathir positioning Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) as an alternative to Umno, and Harapan appointing the former premier as its chairperson, the attacks on DAP have intensified.
The coming general election is poised to witness a crucial battle for Malay votes, with the opposition claiming that a tsunami is taking shape in the Malay heartlands which would drown Umno.
To stave off such a scenario, Umno leaders are repeatedly emphasising that DAP, which holds the most number of seats among the four Harapan parties, is the de facto leader of the coalition.
They claim that DAP would have the final word despite the coalition emphasising on equality and consensus.
They have also accused Mahathir of being a stooge of DAP.
For example, Umno information chief Annuar Musa credited Lim for being able to "tame" the formidable former premier when others failed in the past.
